Re: Brice Samba

More chance of Cardiff playing Samba football this season.

Re: Brice Samba

And Sabri would know all about him.

Is he another sweeper keeper type Bryan?

You would have to think so. He looks super agile.

Modern football the keeper is almost seen as a key outfield player. If Muric gets injured after 4 games and we don't have a similar style GK all the hard work goes to nothing.

Caen want some decent money though if I remember correctly.

Looks like he has quick reflexes on that vid.

Good point re needing a back up keeper who can play the way Sabri wants. You’d think he has provided a list of already scouted players in the French league.

Think stats are overused in judging players but I think stats are relatively clear on goalkeepers. Good keepers tend to concede less than bad goalkeepers, regardless of the defence infront of them.

His record is fairly good and keeps a cleansheet 1 in 3 games, that's a good record for a side that just got relegated. They just couldn't score goals last year.

9 clean sheets for a team who got relegated isn't bad going (also played once this season in Ligue 2 and kept a CS). See Montpellier and Rennes also after him.

Re: Brice Samba

Basically Caen's player of the season if you read reports too. Proper little spider in goal. Valued at 4m Euro.

Re: Brice Samba

Do we really need another keeper?

I guess the argument is, if you're very determined a particular style of play, which includes the goalkeepers playing a particular way, then yes.

Because there's no way Pantilimon, Steele or Smith can play out and start attacks. Smith rarely clears halfway with his kicks, Pantilimon often finds touch and Steele clearly isn't backed to do it either.

I know there's a school of thought that, 'so long as he keeps it out the net he's doing his job'. But in reality, that isn't just the 'keepers job anymore, there's other elements of their game that is demanded to be better.

Have we just typed Samba into the player search box in Football Manager and hoped for the best?

That's fine but we need to be offloading at least one of Steele or Pants before bringing in anyone else if Lamouchi doesn't believe they're up to it

Our squad's bloated enough as it is without having five keepers on the books

Playing as high a line as possible when possible a sweeper keeper with mobility is so crucial. It is like an outfield player and you need2 viable options.

Wonder if Pantilimon has something agreed or we just.pushing this through now hoping for the best next week re Pants.

Re: Brice Samba

I would hope that, even if we sack Lamouchi at some point due to it not working out, we replace him with a manager who will continue to play football in the same way, ie - utilising the players we already have rather than adopting a new style. So Brice could be first choice next season once Muric goes back to City.
